Weekly Update for 11/26/12
Math: Flat and solid shapes: cube, cylinder, pyramid and sphere. Math Facts +0,+1 and Doubles- please continue to practice these at home. Here is a great website I found, http://www.adaptedmind.com/gradelist.php , you can have your child
practice the 1st Grade Math section.
Reading: Short i words and sight  words. As you are studying the sight word lists it is helpful to keep going back over previous lists so that your child retains those words as well.
Science: Animals that hibernate, migrate or adapt. Talk with your child and see if they can tell you the various animals and how they handle the winter weather!
Language:  We have learned about nouns, adjectives and verbs. This week we are learning more about verbs(action words)
Bible: This week we are studying the story of Kind David and Jonathan's son Mephibosheth. We are also talking about how David showed kindness to Mephibosheth and how we should show kindness to each other.
Social Studies:  Workers - Everyone has a job to do! What is your job in school? What is your job do your parents do?

Reminders:
  • Christmas Play Costume: See me if you need help getting one for your child.
  • Angel Tree Donation: We have had about seven families donate 5 $ for our Angel Tree child. If you can afford it, your donation would be greatly appreciated! Please send in this week.
  • Treasure Box: We are starting to run low in our treasure box, if you could pick up a few things and send them in that would be great! You may want to ask your child what kinds of things they would like to have.
Thank You!

No Homework over Thanksgiving Break

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!

I hope everyone has wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving break!
There will be no homework sent home over break so
that everyone can relax and have a good time!
But if you would like something to do over the break
you can work on "Popcorn Words" , math facts: doubles, +1, and +0  and reading.

Reminder:
Our Thanksgiving Feast will be tomorrow, so you will not need to send a lunch with your child. All parents are welcome to attend the feast and if you paid for a
dinner you our welcome to eat with us as well.
Also, the kids can go home with you at 1:30 when our feast is over, if you would like.
Blessings

Weekly Update ~ 10/24/2012

Weekly Update
10/24/12

Well, I thought since I'm stuck at home not feeling well, I would give you an update of what we've been working on in class and what is coming up next week!

This week we worked on:
  • Phonics: Reading and writing short a and short e words.
  • Reading Comprehension: Identifying the main idea of a story.
  • Math: Numbers 10-12 and addition facts with sums of 10-12. Doubles addition facts: 1+1=2 all the way to 10+10=20. Ask your kids if they can tell them to you! We also learned a doubles addition wrap! You can look it up on You tube if you want to sing it at home, but be careful it gets stuck in your head! Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljPKoNJH1Jg
  • Bible: Samuel Anoints Two Kings , we've been talking about how other people tend to look at how we are on the outside but God looks at our hearts:)
  • Science: The human body: We've talked about our brain and digestive system so far and on Friday we will be doing a pumpkin floating experiment ( if I'm feeling better and back in school) Next week we will be finishing up the human body and beginning our unit on animals!
  • Social Studies: we have been talking about maps and our place on them and what neighborhood, city, state, country, and continent we live on. Next week we will begin talking about our leaders.
I will not be in school tomorrow as I am still not feeling well but I am hopeful that another day of rest is all I need! After everyone being so sick I just didn't want to take the chance of giving everyone another illness, plus whatever this is has made me so tired!

God Bless
